Evans Haile of Mandeville, Louisiana and Emily Ross of Diamondhead, Mississppi catpured the Boys and Girls Overall Championships at the AJGT Tchefuncta Junior Classic at Tchefuncta Country Club in Covington, Louisiana. Triston Elston and Jordan Mathies, both of Baton Rouge, LA, won Age Division Titles at the tournament.

Players battled cool, wet and windy conditions at the tournament on the newly remodeled course at Tchefuncta. Host PGA Professional Ted Elliott provided exceptional hospitality to the AJGT participants and families. The tournament was the last tune-up before the Championship, Triple Points Tournament at the AJGT Kelly Love Showcase Classic at Indian Bayou Country Club in Destin, Florida on the weekend of November 7th-8th.

Mandeville’s Evans Haile (76-75-151) played the combined front sides in 1 overpar for the tournament enroute to his third AJGT Boys Overall Championship. Haile’s last victory was at the AJGT Governor’s Games Junior Classic at Carter Plantation in Springfield, LA in June, where he shot 70-70-140 to finish 4 under par on the David Toms design there.

Haile birdied 4 & 5 in succession on Saturday and was even par at the turn. Haile birdied again on Sunday and played the front in 1 over par 36 enroute to the win.

Julian Mixon (73-79-152) of Poplarville, MS finished one shot back at 152. Mixon fired an opening round, 2 over par 73 and slept on a two-shot lead at the midway mark. Mixon birdied 5 & 8 and played the front in 1 over par 36 on Saturday. Mixon added birdies on the 5, 16 & 18 on Sunday. Johndavid Nickel (79-74-153) of Crowley, LA was third at 153. Nickel carded four Sunday birdies, on 1, 4, 8 & 10, and shot even par 35 on Sunday’s front nine during his second day move. Nickel’s Sunday 74 was the best final round in the Boys 15-18 Year-Old Age Division.

Drew Boston (75-82-157) of Baton Rouge and Brandon Pierce (79-78-157) of Covington, LA tied for fourth at 157. Boston birdied 1 & 4 on Saturday and fired an opening round 75 and added another final round birdie on 10. Pierce birdied 2, 11 & 14 on Saturday and shot 78 on Sunday.

Biloxi’s Garrett Barnes (76-82-158), Taylor Billings (81-77-158) of Kenner, LA and Keeno Jackson (83-75-158) of Hammond, LA tied for sixth, one shot back at 158. Barnes birdied 18 and shot 76 on Saturday and posted a birdie on 13 on Sunday. Billings birdied no. 7 on Sunday and fired a final round 77. Jackson shot 1 over par 36 on Sunday’s front nine enroute to a final round 75 and recorded four birdies on the weekend.

Jacob Posze (77-82-159) of Greenwell Springs, LA and Ben Como (85-75-160) of Broussard, LA rounded out the Top Ten. Posze carded four weekend birdies and played Saturday’s back nine in even par 36 enroute to a 77. Como made three weekend birdies and shot 75 on Sunday’s back nine.

Triston Elston (77-73-150) of Baton Rouge shot a final round, 2 over par 73 to capture the Boys 12-14 Year-Old Age Division. Elston went out in 1 over par 36 on Saturday enroute to his first round 77. Elston then played Sunday’s front side in 1 under par 34 and finished at 2 over 73 for the day. Elston birdied no. 7 on Sunday’s front side.

Mobile’s Daniel McCormick (89-82-171), Breau Briggs (83-89-172) of Madisonville, LA and Hunter Hale (85-90-175) of Franklinton, LA finished second, third and fourth, respectively, in the Boys 12-14 Year-Old Age Division. McCormick shot 4 over par 39 on Saturday’s front nine and posted two birdies on the weekend. Briggs shot 83 on Saturday and birdied no. 8 on Sunday. Hale birdied no. 4 on Saturday enroute to an opening round 85.

Johnny Maxwell (96-83-179) of Ruston, LA, Christian Neal (84-98-182) of Covington and Wyatt Ott (103-107-210) of Hammond, LA rounded out the Top Seven in the Boys 12-14’s. Maxwell shot 4 over 39 on Sunday’s front nine and birdied no. 9. Neal opened with a 4 over 39 on Saturday’s front nine.

Emily Ross (92-83-175) of Diamondhead, MS fired a four over par 39 on Sunday’s back nine to take the Girls Overall Championship. Ross, playing out of the Girls 12-14 Year-Old Age Division, shot 83 on Sunday for the Title.

Madeline Gordon (91-86-177) of Kenner, LA shot a final round 86 and finished in second, two shots behind Ross. Gordon birdied no. 15 on Sunday. Jordan Mathies of Baton Rouge shaved 17 strokes on Sunday enroute to the Girls 15-18 Year-Old Age Division Win.
