Layne Sims of Lafayette, Louisiana and Allison Kippers of Zachary, LA captured the respective Boys and Girls Overall Championships at the AJGT Farm D’Allie Junior Classic at the Farm D’Allie Golf Club in Lafayette. Shreveport’s Philip Barbaree, Jr. nailed down the Boys 12-14 Year-Old Age Division Title.

Saturday’s conditions included temperatures in the fifties, significant wind and multiple rain delays. Despite the obvious difficulties, the course was in excellent condition and the battle for the Boys Overall Championship was a good one.

Layne Sims (77-73-150) fired a final round, 2 under par 70, then defeated Shreveport’s Hunter Gauntlett in a sudden death playoff to capture the AJGT Wetlands Junior Classic last June. At the AJGT Farm D’Allie Junior Classic, Sims again shot a solid final round and once again earned a 1 shot victory, his second AJGT Boys Overall Championship.
Sims birdied the 197-yard, par three 7th and the 412-yard, par four 9th on Saturday and covered the first nine holes of the event in 1 over 37. Sims carded five birdies on Sunday and played the back nine in even par 36 enroute to a final round 73. Sims birdied 4, 6, 7, 12 & 16 on Sunday.

 Scott Sweeney Nails His Second Consecutive Top Three Finish

Jacob Ross (78-73-151) of Brookhaven, MS also fired a final round, 1 over par 73 to finish 1 shot back of Sims in second place. Ross birdied 3 & 7 on Saturday. On Sunday, Ross birdied 11 & 12 in succession and nailed seven pars to close with a 2 under 34 on the tournament’s last nine holes. Daniel Buller (75-77-152) of Westlake, LA and Scott Sweeney (77-75-152) of Lake Charles, LA tied for third at 152. Buller posted four first round birdies, seven on the weekend, and eagled the par five 11th on Sunday. Buller played Sunday’s back nine in 2 under 34. Sweeney garnered his second consecutive third place finish, shooting 3 over 75 on Sunday. Sweeney birdied 6 & 16 on Saturday and 9 & 12 during his final round.

Lafayette’s Justin Duplantis (81-75-156), Johndavid Nickel (77-79-156) of Crowley, LA and Lewis Peters (74-82-156) all tied for fifth at 156. Duplantis birdied 1 & 14 on Sunday and shot 3 over par 75. Nickel birdied the first and last holes of the day on Saturday and the par four 12th on Sunday. Peters, who shot 2 over 74 on Saturday, slept on a 1 shot lead at the midway mark. Peters nailed five weekend birdies and shot even par 36 in the rain on Saturday’s back side.

Dillon Dunbar (79-79-158) of Marksville, LA and Biloxi’s Garrett Barnes (83-78-161) were eighth and ninth, respectively. Dunbar collected four birdies on the weekend and played Saturday’s front nine in 1 over par. Barnes had two birdies on Saturday and eagled the par five 11th on Sunday. Barnes closed with a 1 over 37 on Sunday’s back side. Don Breaux (80-85-165) of Baton Rouge rounded out the Top Ten. Breaux carded two birdies each day.

Allison Kippers signed with McNeese State University on Tuesday, then celebrated by capturing the Girls Overall Championship on the weekend. Kippers’ final round, 1 over par 73 included two birdies on each side. Kippers birdied the par five 4th hole and the par four 9th and shot 1 over par 37 on Sunday’s front. Kippers birdied the par four 14th and the par five 18th on the back, playing the last nine holes in even par 36.

Anna McMullen (86-84-170) of Monroe, LA was second at 170, one shot better than Hanna Schorr (90-81-171) of Broussard, LA, who took third. McMullen birdied no. 4 on Saturday and the par four 9th on Sunday. Schorr, who shot 81 on Sunday, birdied 4 & 11 during her final round. Robyn Daniel (96-78-174) of Baton Rouge was three strokes back in fourth. Daniel fired a final round, 6 over par 78, improving her Saturday score by 18 strokes. Daniel birdied no. 18 on Saturday and no. 4 on Sunday, both par fives.

Barbaree birdied the par four 2nd hole and shot 2 over 38 on Saturday’s front side. Barbaree covered Sunday’s front side in even par 36, making eight pars and a birdie on the par four 9th.

William Myers (91-80-171) of Baton Rouge eagled the par five 11th hole on Sunday and carded a final round 80 enroute to a fourth place finish. Lafayette’s Drew Gonzales (90-83-173) birdied 17 on Saturday and 11 on Sunday and played the last nine holes of the tourney in 3 over 39 enroute to a fifth place finish at 173. Lucas West (88-93-181) of Chataignier, LA birdied no. 3 on Saturday and no. 10 on Sunday and took sixth. Matthew Jakuback (104-88-192) shot a final round 88 and shaved 12 strokes from his Saturday effort.
